Heard Around Our Towns...
There is news, and then there's lots of talk...

In Bloomingburg –
The latest news here focuses on the pending sale of a local mobile home development by a former village mayor and Mamakating town councilwoman, who has offered current residents to outbid the parties interested in using the property for other purposes. A deadline date of July 29 seems to be floating in the air... although others are saying any moving of trailers is a good five years off. Talk about change... in all its manifestations.

In Orange County –
The big push this summer? County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and Commissioner of Health Dr. Eli Avila have come up with a comprehensive plan "to protect residents from Zika virus and other mosquito-borne diseases." Okay, so they admit "virtually no risk of acquiring Zika virus in this region" then talks about watching those who travel to foreign countries, especially in Central and South America. Aren't election years fun?

In Ulster County –
Contrary to rumors, the county isn't tearing up any rails in Kingston... and the reason the D.A.'s getting a raise is because of state laws that require such positions to not pay less than judges. Meanwhile, the county Industrial Development Agency is looking into ways of lessening the effects of its deals on school taxes. Finally.

In The State –
How about that pending legislation which could make New York the first state to ban the declawing of cats? There's already battles brewing up in Albany, as well as among veterinarians. And claws are reportedly out...
